ToolJet vs Superblocks: AI, hosting and governance.

ToolJet is an enterprise internal-app platform for teams that need AI app generation, a visual builder and control over deployment. Navitas reports 31 internal applications delivered in 60 days; MGID reports 20 active applications. Team includes SSO, audit logs and GitSync. Enterprise adds SCIM, builder BYOK on Cloud and Self-hosted, and a dedicated support manager. Customer-hosted AI gateways and air-gapped operation are separate Self-hosted Enterprise add-ons. Review the plan, permissions and deployment requirements for your rollout.

It depends on deployment. Superblocks Hybrid runs an on-premise agent, the data plane, in your AWS, GCP or Azure VPC, while the control plane, including configuration, orchestration, metadata, governance and permission checks, stays in Superblocks' cloud along with your application definitions and Clark's inference. The agent communicates outbound-only to that control plane, so a disconnected deployment is not possible. Enterprise customers can get AWS Cloud-Prem, the full platform including AI inference in your AWS account, operated by Superblocks as a managed service. ToolJet runs the entire platform in your infrastructure on Free, Team and Enterprise.

Hybrid cannot: the on-premise agent must reach the Superblocks control plane over an outbound connection to function. The AWS Cloud-Prem documentation does not mention air-gapped or offline operation. ToolJet supports offline operation with the Self-hosted Enterprise air-gapped add-on. Fully local AI also requires the AI gateway add-on and a supported local model.

Superblocks has two MCP servers. The Builder MCP lets you create, edit and publish apps from Claude, with Slack, ChatGPT and Teams planned, but it works by conversing with Clark, Superblocks' own agent, which does the building and consumes GAUs like any Clark session. The Admin MCP lets Cursor, Claude Code and Windsurf administer your organisation; it does not build apps and is listed as an Enterprise feature. ToolJet's MIT-licensed MCP server, packaged for Claude Code and Codex, provides native app tools so your agent constructs the app directly, with no ToolJet credits consumed. On Self-hosted only, MCP can create and edit workflow drafts, validate them, and run them explicitly or inspect executions; authoring never runs or publishes a workflow automatically.

Not the model. Superblocks exposes three execution modes, Max, Standard and Smart, and its docs state that customers do not need to manually select models: Superblocks handles model orchestration behind the scenes. Clark was announced on Claude Opus 4.6 in February 2026, and Smart mode routes individual steps to frontier or open-source models to cut cost. No bring-your-own-key option for Clark is documented, except Amazon Bedrock inference on AWS Cloud-Prem for Enterprise. Deployed apps can call your own provider keys through the App AI setting. On ToolJet, Luna is available on Free, and Haiku 5.5, GPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok are available on paid plans; builder BYOK is available on Enterprise plans for both Cloud and Self-hosted. The customer-hosted AI gateway is a separate Self-hosted Enterprise add-on. Fully local AI requires that gateway and a supported local model.

A GAU is Superblocks' AI metering unit, consumed by every Clark interaction based on request complexity. The Teams plan includes 100 GAUs a month, with additional packs and automatic or one-time refills available. GAUs reset monthly. Published 100-GAU packs cost $100/month with annual billing or $125/month with monthly billing; usage depends on the request.

Luna is available for app generation on Free. Haiku 5.5 requires a paid plan. ToolJet includes credits per plan, 2,000 on Basic at $29 per builder per month, billed monthly, and 3,000 per builder on Team, with pay-as-you-go top-ups rather than a larger recurring subscription. Building through a coding agent over the MCP server consumes no ToolJet credits at all, and Enterprise builder BYOK on Cloud and Self-hosted consumes no ToolJet credits; provider usage is billed separately.

On ToolJet, all three are included on the Team plan at $199 per builder per month, billed annually, with SAML, OpenID Connect and LDAP. Google/GitHub login is also available on Self-hosted Free. On Superblocks, SSO/SAML/OIDC, audit logs and source control are all Enterprise-only, and Superblocks does not publish Enterprise pricing.

On the entry price, yes: Superblocks Teams starts at $100 a month billed annually for up to 15 builders, against ToolJet Team at $199 per builder per month, billed annually. But Superblocks Teams excludes SSO, audit logs, source control, secrets management and VPC deployment, includes one hosted app, and meters AI usage in GAU packs. The plans that clear a security review are ToolJet Team and Superblocks Enterprise, and only one of those has a published price.

No. The platform is closed source and proprietary. Only the on-premise agent is published. ToolJet's Community Edition is open source under AGPL-3.0 with over 41,000 GitHub stars and 650 contributors, and its MCP server is MIT.
